What’s the best thing about eating quality, pasture raised meat? It’s hard to choose just one. Not only does it create the most delicious meals, but there are so many other amazing benefits to choosing meat that’s good for the earth, good for the animals and great for you. At Beck & Bulow, we’ve seen firsthand how quality meat can change people’s lives. Our team has experienced it for ourselves and we’ve witnessed it with so many of our friends, family and customers.

1. Pasture Raised Meat Is Good For The Environment

There is more carbon stored in the soil than is contained in the atmosphere and all of the plant-life on earth, combined. We’ve all heard about the environmental detriment of excess carbon. The more carbon stays in the ground, the less is released into the atmosphere where we don’t want it. The 60 million bison that once roamed North America played a key role in trapping carbon in the ground. Not only is our atmosphere healthier this way, but when carbon stays where it’s meant to be it also helps to nourish the soil. In-ground carbon gives us richer soil, abundant and nutritious crops, cleaner water, and prevents soil erosion. Grazing animals like bison and cattle provide biodiverse fertilizer in the form of poop, creating a protective layer on top of the soil that keeps carbon sealed down underneath.

Manure from pasture raised animals contains all of the microbes and nutrients the soil needs. If you’re a gardener, you know that the best fertilizers contain nitrogen, and grass fed manure is an excellent source. To make artificial fertilizers, nitrogen has to be mined which requires the use of fossil fuels. Synthetic fertilizers inevitably alter the nutrient balance of the soil, release excess carbon into the air during production, and reduce the carbon trapped beneath the ground. The natural rhythm of life provides the soil with everything it needs. All we have to do is stop supporting industrial feedlots and raise meat the way we’re supposed to.

2. Meat Is The Original Superfood

The nutritional qualities of meat that comes from pasture raised animals are far superior to anything else. This meat is chock full of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. When raised the way nature intended, meat is free of hormones, steroids, antibiotics and other toxins. The nutrient content is much richer than what is found in grain fed meat, so much so that they could hardly be considered the same food. There is abundant evidence that without eating meat, the brains of modern day humans never would have evolved. Quality meat is a nutritional powerhouse that fuels us in every way imaginable. As the proverb goes, you are what you eat. Pasture raised and wild meat is nourishing and strengthening.

3. The Taste Is Absolutely Phenomenal

Okay, aside from the benefits for the earth and for our health, we all want our food to taste delicious. We constantly hear from customers that once they try our meat, they don’t want to eat it from anywhere else. Naturally, everyone on our team feels the same way. Once you’ve experienced meat that’s truly excellent in quality, the way it tastes and the way you feel after you eat it will tell you everything you need to know. I never considered myself much of a cook until I started feeling inspired about cooking our meat. The awesome thing about cooking with this meat is that it is SO EASY to create something that tastes incredible. It’s quick and convenient to prepare restaurant quality meals because the meat is so good, it’s the star of the show. All it takes is a little knowledge about the best ways to cook different cuts to bring out all of the amazing flavor, juicy texture and versatility.
