Cooking a steak in a slow cooker is not the best method to achieve a medium-rare doneness, as slow cookers are designed to cook food slowly and at low temperatures, which can result in overcooking the steak and making it tough. However, if you still want to try it, here’s a recipe you can follow:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. steak (ribeye, sirloin, or flank)
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions:

  1. Season the steak with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the steak for 1–2 minutes on each side until browned.
  3. In the slow cooker, layer the sliced onion and minced garlic on the bottom.
  4. Place the seared steak on top of the onions and garlic.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce, and pour the mixture over the steak.
  6. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 4–5 hours or until the steak is tender.
  7. Check the internal temperature of the steak with a meat thermometer. For medium-rare doneness, the temperature should be 135°F (57°C).
  8. Let the steak rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Note: Keep in mind that slow cookers vary in temperature and cooking time, so it’s important to use a meat thermometer to ensure that the steak is cooked to your desired doneness. Also, cooking steak in a slow cooker will not give you the same crusty exterior that you get from grilling or pan-searing, but it will be tender and flavorful.
